Comprehensive renovation of a traditional house in the countryside of Guadalajara. The project began with a house deteriorated by the passage of time, with various modifications made over the years, including expansions and the conversion of different spaces or added elements that distorted its original configuration.
First, a thorough analysis of the current state was conducted, both at a structural and functional level, leading to the conclusion that it was necessary to demolish some of the added constructions to highlight a solid building with its own distinct identity.
The entire layout was reconfigured to create clearer and more modern circulations. Relationships between different spaces within the house were established, making it more practical and functional, with well-proportioned areas suited to modern living, ensuring that the large dimensions of the house do not become an obstacle in daily use. It is worth noting the importance of freeing the façade from those added elements to achieve a house that is very bright in all its rooms, fostering a connection with the exterior and the surrounding countryside views.
A significant effort was made to use natural, traditional, and handcrafted materials, respecting the original construction style and thereby creating a coherent, peaceful home that aligns with the traditional construction found in the Castilian countryside. From the exterior of the house, which is finished with lime mortar and covered with reclaimed tiles, to the interiors featuring plaster walls and handcrafted terracotta or reclaimed stone floors, the importance of integrating tradition with functionality is evident in creating a space that harmonizes with its natural surroundings.”
